VOX POPULI: A Play

It’s the last week of what has been a brutal national election campaign.

According to the polls, Prime Minister Luka Zenig is hanging on by the skin of her teeth and will soon be out of office. Luka had previously been elected the nation’s youngest ever Prime Minister on a wave of social media support and an appetite for change, but now even that appetite has changed and the tide has turned.

The fast-paced program of changes and reforms by Luka’s government has proven too much for the people to absorb and now the people want things ‘back to how they used to be.’

John Burman, leader of the opposition and self-described man of the people, has campaigned on getting the country back. The political battle lines have been drawn with the forces of woke lined up against conservatism.

Following an ugly campaign, Act 2 depicts a gradual descent into authoritarianism, how quickly freedoms can be surrendered and how much a country can change in just one year. Against the forces of populism, unpopular opinions can be costly.
