Last weekend to catch Getting There
Written by Chris Gordon, featuring the songs of Pat and Geoff Drummond, and starring Rocky Hill Musical Theatre Company talent, Getting There has two final shows this weekend.
It is a gutsy effort to write and deliver a local musical, and Gordon and the Rocky Hill ensemble have done just that, with a narrative to weave around songs, and themes such as bullying, honour among mates, love lost and found, and the resilience of people living on the land.
The whole cast delivers some great performances, with some standout voices including Ant Lewis, Shannon and Sarah Trama, Ebrentia Britts, Alfie Walker and Caitlin Dalgleish.
The band is accomplished with a standout among them for me being the acoustic guitar playing of David Butler, which added a soulful layer to the overall sound, especially in songs like The SAO Song.
The backdrops depicting the various scenes have been well-crafted, particularly the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Getting There continues this Friday, August 17, and Saturday, August 18 at 7pm in the Goulburn High School Hall. The old-fashioned musical has a truly authentic Australian tone and should appeal to all ages.
Tickets are $25/$15.
