Villains and Vixens

Villains and Vixens is a musical revue that focuses on some of the less heroic characters from musical theatre and posits the idea that we are all heroes in our own stories.

Guided by the emcees, the Villain and the Vixen, the show presents an ongoing discussion through various themes and philosophies, punctuated and amplified by the songs that follow each discussion.

The Villain and Vixen don't often see eye to eye, but as the show goes on this provides some insights into their own relationship.

The show weaves its way through themes including being fake versus being sincere, confidence versus uncertainty, and hiding who you are versus embracing all that you are.

Villains and Vixens is available for hire. For details. please contact Chris Gordon at chris@gordoncreative.online.

The backstory

In early 2017, the Rocky Hill Musical Theatre Company had recently completed its first production... Seussical... and was keen to keep the momentum rolling.

This show came about as a result of the cancellation of a production of Pirates of Penzance at short notice and the need to fill that void. Kerrie Jiear suggested we consider a revue and suggested the title Villains and Vixens, and along with Sarah Trama came up with the idea for a show that focussed on the less heroic songs and characters from musical theatre.

Along with myself and Mike Jiear, the four of us brainstormed numerous songs that fit that description. I wrote a script, using the device of having two emcees that were essentially characters themselves, and selected songs that amplified the themes that were bookended by discussions by "the Villain" and "the Vixen."

This was the first show I wrote. The Rocky Hill Musical Theatre Company production was performed in the old Marian College Chapel on 28 & 19 April, 5 & 6 May 2017, was directed by Sarah Trama with Mike Jiear the Musical Director and Kerrie Jiear the Producer.
