GAME REVIEW: Fortnite
Hi again.
Sorry, it’s been a while, but recently I’ve gotten back into blogging and I decided that since it’s been a while I should talk about a very popular game,
Fortnite.
There are 350 million registered Fortnite players in the world and it’s something like the 10th most popular game in the world. And, best of all, it’s free (well sort of, but we’ll get to that).
Fortnite has been around for about four years so it’s pretty impressive that a game has stayed this popular for so long.
One of the reasons for its ongoing popularity is that it keeps adding new, quality content and gives its players achievable goals to reach with Victory Royales.
The “new, quality content” part is where the game can cost you money. When new seasons change, that’s free, but it’s the skins and the cosmetic items that cost money. And even though you can earn the V Bucks (the game’s currency) for free through levelling up but fortnight has put a time limit those skins and cosmetic items which can make a player feel hurried so that they buy the skins and so on immediately
I once wrote a speech about why you shouldn’t spend your life savings on things like V Bucks because you can play just as well without them, but in playing you can get hooked on getting the newest stuff, or things that appeal to you, or represent you… or just to show off like a peacock, only without the feathers. And I have to confess I have spent more than a few V Bucks on this sort of stuff. Taken to the extreme, some kids have even stolen parents credit cards to buy V Bucks which is one of the dangers to kids getting too addicted to the game.
The game itself is a bit like Player Unknown’s Battle Ground (PUBG), Call of Duty Warzone, Realm Royale, and Apex Legends (and there are others) where you are on a map where the circle keeps closing in, and you have to stay inside of it to not be eliminated. The 100 players take each other out until there is only one.
I do ok at this game, but have only won outright five or six times.
One of the things I like in a lot of games is the ability to customise my character, and there is a lot of variety for that in Fortnite. You can customise your appearance, your pickaxe or harvesting tool, your glider, your wrap and your emotes and then the weapons you pick up as you go.
There’s no gory violence in the game, and when you shoot opponents you don’t see any damage… they just stop if they lose all their health.
I recommend Fortnite as a safe and very fun game. The only thing parents need to watch for is their credit cards and online chatter with potentially older players, although I’ve been very lucky and have even made friends with some regular team-mates based in Queensland
I play it on Playstation 4 and I give it a 9 out of 10.

What a great review Bobby. I know the game is VERY popular, but didn’t really know much about it, so your review has been very helpful.
